Weekly Wrap-Up: The One Where She Decides to Do School Work for “Fun”

Two weeks into summer break and here’s how I find Mackenzie…

Sitting at the table and starting her Wordsmith Apprentice writing program that’s for next year.   She’s worked on it all week because she apparently loves it.  I wonder if that’s a glimmer of what our school year will be like next year?

I’m not sure that I’m that lucky. LOL

We went to the park with a friend and Mackenzie got a nasty bite from what I think was an earwig.  It was hard to tell because she was hysterically flailing about.  I was a good mom and didn’t take a picture of that, although I was tempted, but I did get a shot of the bite.  Poor girl!

On Father’s Day we went on a 12-mile bike ride at a local state park.  As a reward for making it up the hills of sand we stopped for a dip in the bay.  I have to wonder why the only places on the trail that had sand were the hills.  Cruel!

We ended the week with a trip to the waterpark with our friends.  Sadly, a thunderstorm rolled through and they kicked us out of the water for quite a spell.  The kids were troopers though.

Next week she’s off to church camp so Kayleigh will be an only child for the week.

Pop over to Weird, Unsocialized Homeschoolers and see how everyone else is doing.

Wow! Now why aren't my kids so excited about their new work that they want to do some this summer?! Oh, I haven't purchased most of our new books yet! LOL But I still don't think they would grab a book and start working on it even if I did have them! They want to swim in the lake, stay up late and sleep in, hang out with friends, watch movies, and play video games! And play with chicks! Anyway, OUCH! I didn't think earwigs bit like that!

Looks like a lot of summer fun! You know often kids will really like school if it is done in smaller bits, I have found. That is why we homeschool year around -so we can have a more relaxed attitude.

Sounds like so much fun, except the bug bite part. And already an excitement for the next school year?! Way to go, Mom!

That is great that she is excited about her work! My daughter enjoys school but not enough to do it on her own. I will find her reading some school books quietly sometimes though. Not doing assignments, just reading or skimming through things. Thanks for stopping by from the wrap-up. :)
