Chasing Picture Perfection Assignment: Portrait with Shallow Depth of Field

It's time for another photo challenge with Stacie over at Chasing Picture Perfection. This time we're practicing using shallow depth of field. Which, in simple terms, means blur the background so the subject pops.

Since it's my daughter's birthday tomorrow (even though I'm trying my best to pretend she's still a baby) I decided to photograph her. This might be one of my favorite shots of her. Except that she looks too grown up.

Chasing Picture Perfection Assignment

It's time for another photo challenge over at Chasing Picture Perfection.


Our assignment this time is to take a stop action photo. I was excited about this assignment because I've been working on that skill all summer long. Between my daughter's soccer games and my friend's field hockey I'm slowly, but surely, getting better at this.


I like shooting action shots, particularly kids sports, because when you look back at the pictures you can see all the funny expressions the players make. That's hours of good, cheap entertainment. After my daughter's first soccer game we spent over an hour going through the 600+ pictures I took and made up a story based on the kids facial expressions. We laughed until our sides hurt.


Here are my two favorite shots of the summer. The second shot is a bonus because my daughter really wanted me to use a shot of her this time. Apparently she keeps track of this stuff. LOL So you get a 2-4-1 this time.



Those are some hard-working girls on that field hockey field.




I like this soccer picture because the kids remind me of a dog chasing it's tail. They just keep running after that ball. LOL My daughter's the one with the ribbons in her hair. She likes to be sporty and girly.

Chasing Picture Perfection: Worms-Eye View

It's time for another photo lesson/contest from Chasing Picture Perfection.

Our assignment was to take a picture from a worm's-eye view. Meaning get low and shoot up. This would have been easier if we hadn't had so many rainy days lately. Wet ground does not make getting low much fun. LOL

But here are my efforts from our muddy trip to the corn maze. It was no easy task. Not only was the ground muddy, my toddler is apparently deathly afraid of corn mazes. It was all I could to get her off me to take any photos. LOL

This last one is of the Tokyo Tower. I didn't even have to lay on the ground. Just walk underneath it. Did you know the Tokyo Tower is actually 15 feet taller then the Eiffel Tower? Now you do! LOL

Chasing Picture Perfection: Assignment # 3 "Window Light Portrait"

In an attempt to get to know my rockin' camera better, I have decided to go to "photo school" over at Chasing Picture Perfection.

Although I missed the first two assignments because I was "late for school", I'm excited to learn more about photgraphy and my camera. The current "homework" assignment is to take a window light portrait. Kayleigh made this assignment easy for me, as she likes to stand and look out the window a lot.
