Tot School

Kayleigh is 26 months old

Tot School

Surprisingly, we had another week with cooperation. It would freak me out, this cooperative tot schooling tot, but she's still pretty uncooperative the rest of the day so I'm pretty sure she's not sick. LOL

This week we continued on with our zoo/jungle theme. We did a lot and she participated for the most part. I still have a few zoo/jungle things left that I want to do so we'll continue with the theme next week too.

We danced with scarves to Baby Einstein: Sing and Play . That's always fun.

We read Jigsaw Jungle. It's a very cute book that has a 2-piece animal puzzle on each page. Kayleigh pulled this off the shelf all week long.

We practiced counting and recognize 1-5 by jumping on our zebra number cards from Confessions of A Homeschooler. This was another activity that Kayleigh really loved. She pulled those out a lot through-out the week. Mackenzie and I did most of the counting but at least she played. And she even let Mackenzie have a turn. She usually has a fit if Mackenzie tries to help out with Tot School. Be sure to notice that her skirt is missing. It was apparently an issue for her. LOL

We read From Head to Toe and Kayleigh tried to act like the animals. Here she is as a camel.

We practiced cutting and made a zebra. She "cut" the black stripes for the zebra and glued them on paper. She still has no scissor skills. Not even with her special Spring-Action Scissors. We'll just keep practicing. No pictures of the cutting, I was helping her by holding the paper, but here she is gluing.

We got out our zebra # cards again along with some foam #s for some number matching. She matched the number 3 correctly. LOL

Mackenzie read her Rumble in the Jungle .

Then she sponge painted spots on a giraffe.

We practiced some of our colors by reading Little Scholastic's Zoo and using flashcards/puzzle pieces.

And with Infantino Matching Colors and Textures Puzzles.

She refused to play the Feed the Monkey game that I got off of Kids Soup.

We got out her Melissa & Doug Deluxe Alphabet Nesting and Stacking Blocks . They're always fun to stack and knock down.

At baby gym this week, she did her front roll all by herself. Woot! No pictures though. =o(

On Friday we went to Busch Gardens. I did bring our old point and shoot camera, instead of my Big Girl Camera, and got a few bad pictures. Once you go dslr, there's just no going back. LOL

Today we went strawberry picking with daddy. No pictures at the farm but the aftermath is just as good. LOL

And that was our week. Be sure to stop by 1+1+1=1 and see what the other tots have been doing.

Tot School

Hello fellow Tot Schoolers!! I hope that you have had a great week!

I almost hesitate to tell you all how are week of Tot School went, lest you think I'm a slacker, again. You see, we only did 1 day of actual Tot School. For the second week in a row. Yes, it's true! I had grand visions of a zoo/jungle animal theme. Picture cute art projects to hang in her jungle themed room. Picture a trip to the zoo at the end of the week to see the real animals in action. Picture the reality of a great day on Monday, Baby Gym on Tuesday, and a halt on Wednesday.

On a whim, my husband and I thought of even grander plans. Much grander plans. And we began implementing them on a Wednesday because we're crazy like that. We even called off third grade in order to complete our new plan. We worked on it through Saturday morning. But the new plans were oh, so worth it in the long run. Are you dying to know what caused us to "skip school?" If you want to know, click HERE. I blogged all about it. It is way cool!

Now on to what we did accomplish.

On Monday we had the best day of Tot School ever!! We didn't do much but Wee Babe actually cooperated with what we did do. The entire time!!! Try not to pass out in shock.

She sorted big and little lions...correctly. That's right, I said CORRECTLY!

She built a tower out of MEGA Bloks . Always a good time. She even, gasp, named some of the colors when I asked.

In the Jungle (Play Pegs) was a big hit. I bought it just for our theme. She LOVED it a played with it for a long time. Did I mention that she put the pieces in the correct spot as I read? Really!

Big Sis and I "practiced" counting and clapping to 5 and Kayleigh joined in.

Wee Babe had an urge to paint so I printed a hippo from Confessions of a Homeschooler and got out the DO-A-DOT markers.

Later in the week, Kayleigh found ways to entertain herself while Mommy and Daddy worked on the project.

She played Wii Fit .

She studied a praying mantis case.

She played Elefun with Big Sis.

She discovered the Fisher-Price Laugh and Learn Cookie Shape Surprise that used to belong to Sissy.

She read The Baby Bible Storybook .

Lastly she enjoyed sissy's old Barbie Jeep that we found buried in the garage. I have to say she's a terrible driver. LOL

Be sure to check out the other tots over at Carisa's.

Tot School

Hello Tot Schoolers!!!

There was not a lot of official Tot Schooling going on here this week. To be honest we only got in one day, not counting baby gym. So our rain/rainbow theme didn't get a lot of action. In fact the rain activities didn't get any. LOL

Here's what we did get in on Thursday. Some rainbow fun.

We practiced recognizing and counting 1-5 with some cute circle-time rainbows from here. Kayleigh liked playing with the pointer and she even attempted to count along a bit. I knew she could count to 3 but she surprised my by actually counting to 5. No real # recognition that I can tell. Of course she does her best learning behind my back. LOL

We worked more on counting by counting clouds with an activity from the same site. I deviated a bit by using cotton balls for clouds instead. I'd like to say it's because I wanted to make the activity more tactile for Kayleigh but that's not true. I just didn't feel like cutting around all those little clouds twice. LOL The sensory aspect was just a bonus.

She also did a rainbow magnet page, also from Home Grown Hearts. Her rabbit helped out too.

We read about rainbows in All Aboard with Noah!: A Lift-the-Flap Book . Very cute! And she didn't rip all the flaps out. She's notorious for ripping flaps out. She only got to a couple this time. Sigh...

I made a really cute umbrella shape matching game, again courtesy of Home Grown Hearts, but we didn't get to it. Maybe we'll get it out next time we have a rainy day.

She did play with this.

Naturally, she didn't sort anything. She just randomly stuck things on pegs. So, since I didn't get any pictures of this, you're not really missing out on much. LOL

We did spend a lot of time outdoors early in the week. Before the weather turned on us. She decided she was ready to be a Sonlighter like Sissy. She decided to study birds in The Usborne Book of Knowledge.

She played with her beloved Fisher-Price Little People Dance n' Twirl Palace. Quite frankly, every little girl needs one of these. My oldest was quite upset that they didn't make this when she was a tot. (Never mind that she had every other FP Little People set made at the time. And I won't discuss how we got rid of every single one of them about 2 years before Kayleigh arrived because we thought more kids just weren't happening. LOL)

Kayleigh is really starting to play interactively with dolls. She sets them up, makes them do realistic things, and has them singing. It's just the cutest thing to see.

Kayleigh loves it so much that she even shares her most favorite thing with her little people, rocks. Mmm, mmm rocks are perfect for a royal feast.

Lastly, Big Sis taught her how to cloud watch. How cute is that? (And how irritating that it's the only "activity" that she actually followed directions for? LOL You've got to love her.)

Be sure to head over to 1+1+=1 and see what the other tots have been up too.
