In her last official act of fourth grade, Mackenzie took her CAT test. I think it went well.
She was introduced to some new skills, like adding fractions.
Math-U-See has a totally different scope & sequence then public schools and other curriculums, so she won't be learning about fractions until next year. Then she'll learn about them in depth.
The differences in scope & sequence haven't stopped Mackenzie yet. Math-U-See has given such a great understanding of the whys, as well as the hows, of math that she's always managed to figure out how to do what she hasn't been taught yet. I just love it.
Before the test we had a fun trip to the Virginia Living Museum. Their current traveling museum was about butterflies. Very timely since our last science unit was on butterflies.

I wonder what we'll find to do next week. Definitely a trip to the water park.
Looks like some really great hands-on learning about bugs!
ReplyDeleteDo you give the CAT yourself? I've considered buying it for my kids and administering it just to see how they would do and for standardized testing practice. (Eventually they'll need that.) It's not required for our state though...although I guess it could replace a portfolio review. Anyway, the museum looks awesome! How fun! Cati would really enjoy something like that!
ReplyDeleteThe museum trip looks fun! Two of my kids took the CAT last week. I'm glad to have it finished for this year.
