It's time for the Weekly Wrap-Up, hosted by Kris over at Weird, Unsocialized Homeschoolers. How does a week manage to get away from me so fast?
This week was pretty light. My plan was to finish the three days of work that we didn't get to last week and work ahead in math and bible. I am happy to report that we accomplished that goal. Yay!! I didn't take a lot of pictures this week though. At least not of school.
Bible:
We studied the birth of Jesus this week. We both really enjoyed drawing little stick-figure baby Jesus lying in his manger. We're strange like that. We also decided to listen to some of our favorite Christmas songs since it was our topic. =o)
Math:
We were studying area this week. It went over pretty well.
Social Studies:
We finished up our study on Incas and our other Native American focus was Inuits. We need to find some stick on magnets to finish up our history pocket for the week. I never seem to remember that when I'm at the store though.
Mackenzie finished reading Pocohontas and the Stranger., which she enjoyed. And we started The Sign of the Beaver as our read aloud. That's a book that knows how to keep you interested.
Mackenzie is supposed to be working on a mini-report on a historical person of her choice and she chose Pocahontas. She's never written a report before so I've been looking for something to help her. I found the perfect thing on Teacher Filebox. It had a really nice, step-by-step guide to aid the student. It has many different graphic organizers and instruction. It offered several different topics, one of which was Columbus. So I've changed her topic. LOL She's studied a lot about Columbus and we can work through this together so she can get the feel of it.
Language Arts:
We are finishing up adverbs this week and she's still memorizing The Tragic Story. Spelling went well this week so that was a blessing. Her ability to summarize a passage is getting better and better, thanks to Writing With Ease. It's so nice to have finally found the LA setup that works for us. It only took 4 years. LOL
Science:
We're still covering how the body works. Surprise, surprise we haven't gotten to the experiments yet. I think we'll knock those out tomorrow after church. We'll be waiting for the cable guy to come fix the dvr so we might as well make good use of our time.
Extras:
Soccer went well this week. They finally won a game! Yay!! And Mackenzie played goalie for a while and not one ball got by her. I've decided that sports are too stressful for me though. LOL I always feel bad for whatever team got scored upon. And yet at the same time I want my daughter's team to win. I'm complex like that.
We also took a field trip to The Living Museum with a couple of other HSing families. I'd like to say it was a great learning experience but...not so much. When Kayleigh, my toddler, is the best behaved of the bunch, you know there's a problem. Not to mention, they usually have a special exhibit up that focuses on one topic. Unfortunately they were switching exhibits so it was closed. So we're going again in two weeks so that we can learn about megladons and give the naughty children a chance to redeem themselves.
I did take pictures though.
Sometimes the field trip is just not going to work out! Hopefully it will go better for everyone next time you go. We are moving to Northern Virginia- but maybe we can still hang out!
ReplyDeleteWow, it sounds like a really productive week! The Living Museum looks like a lot of fun.
ReplyDeleteIs that one of those backpack leashes I see? Do you like it, does it work? I hated those when Fox was little and refused to use them on principal. But next week we're going to the Annapolis Boat Show and I'm thinking of getting one. I'm terrified Bram will fall off the dock! I think I may have to eat my own words and strap him in for safety :)
Nice! I wish I was there again. We went there on our vacation to Virginia a couple of weeks ago, and loved it. It really looks nice. I guess you have membership there. It`s great. We were actually able to get in for free on account of our membership at our science Center here in Toronto. You should come up and visit ours ;-)
ReplyDeleteYour field trip pictures are great! Love the lecture by one of the Moms. :) You got alot done this past week - give yourself a pat on the back!! Love your blog!
ReplyDeleteThat museum looks like such a cool place to visit! The fox is just beautiful. LOL at flipping the coin to see who got to yell at the kids.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad your plan for the week worked out like you'd hoped. It's always nice when that happens.
They don't look naughty to me ;) Hopefully next time will be better.
ReplyDeleteLooks like the Museum was fun and congrats to Mackenzie and her team for winning a game!
